The following is a transcript of Q/A of The Iranian President's speech @ Columbia. I'm skipping over the intro, because I'm bored to shit by that sort of thing. However, I found the Q/A educational & interesting. Well, the whole thing about there not being any gays was actually kinda really funny: but still educational and interesting.

I think I'm supposed offer a disclaimer here, stating how I'm really a good liberal, and I really hate the guy, and this is just about my love of free speech, etc.

But I don't hate the guy(just as I don't hate Bush: I just wish he was in a different line of work), I am a good liberal, and yeah: part of this is directed to the heart of free speech. That is, the part that says people who disagree really listening to each other is a Good Thing(tm).

If you're inclined to attack me personally for posting this: save it. I'm not wired that way, and I really, really,a just don't care.

I flew in from a business trip from Europe a few days ago, and I had the most interesting conversation with a man who was smart, militaristic, articulate, reasonable, educated, and slightly right wing.

He gave me a lot to chew on, and opened my eyes a bit about what's going in the world around us, as well as what a reasoned opponent on the other side of aisle should be like.

I remember growing up in the South. I remember getting into fight constantly because kids would start with my friends, and it wasn't until years later that I understood that they did it because my friends were black.

Honestly, it seemed like such a stupid reason to fight, I could never make heads or tales of it: even in the third grade, I knew that we were all the same: what was wrong with these people?

Was it culture? Were they beaten at home, and have anger to piss-off? Were they just stupid? What, exactly, was it? I've wondered then, and I wonder now, and I still don't really know.

But. I did know where they grew these people(Lubbuck, Tx). I just didn't know why. Well, it seems that I was wrong about where they grew them.: that is, Lubbuck isn't the only place they sprout..more on the fold.

And I was not a pacifist. Here's the story.

Last week, after not seeing my wife for about three days( because we're both up @ 5 am and in bed @ some point past 11 PM), we decided that we were going to go a date. Screw the schedule. It was, as the kiddies say, must overdue.

We went to a really nice little restaurant in German Village: Five stars, probably a little over priced. We sat @ our favorite table and started to talk about everything in that way you do when you realize, suddenly, that you're actually married to the person you're in love with.

Every time I think I've become jaded, every time I feel like nothing these people can do could possibly shock me, I hear about something like this, and it makes me want to spit. Taking money away from programs that actively and measurable work to prevent aids, in order to grease the pockets of the religious right-wingers is such a new low, I can't even articulate how disgusted I am.
